President Barry Thompson presided at the weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Chesterfield held at the Olde House, Newbold, on Friday 1 March 2019.
Information boards circulated were: Calendar of events, Attendance register, Pancake Day Lunch at the home of Chesterfield Inner Wheel president Adrienne Handley on Tuesday 5 March 2019 (12.30pm), and the annual Whisky Tasting Evening at the Olde House on Saturday 22 March 2019 (7.30pm).
Past-president Rob Wadd reported that he would not be continuing his role as assistant district governor for the next Rotary Year 2019-20 as his services were not required by the incoming district governor David Hood.
The guest speaker was past-president Mike Tomlinson (Wirksworth) who gave an update on Aquabox. The Wirksworth based charity makes such a difference worldwide to the lives of people affected by natural disasters with the provision of safe drinking water and humanitarian aid. After questions and answers a formal vote of thanks was proposed by speaker host, past-president Jim Savage. As part of the club’s international service programme, a donation of £300 was made to the charity when president-elect Nigel Metham presented a cheque.
The next club meeting on Friday 8 March 2019 is the monthly business meeting for Council business. Duty rotarian is Peter Barr.
