President Barry Thompson presided at the weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Chesterfield held at the Olde House, Newbold, on Friday 26 October 2018.
Information boards circulated were: Attendance register, Charter Luncheon at the Ringwood Hall Hotel on Sunday 4 November 2018, Satelliite Club Charity Quiz night at Loundsley Green Community Centre on Thursday 8 November 2018, Joint Christmas lunch with Chesterfield Inner Wheel at the Sandpiper Hotel on Friday 7 December 2018, Burns Night Supper at the Olde House on Saturday 26 January 2019, and a first pass for volunteers for Santa’s Sleigh at local supermarkets this Christmas time.
President-nominee Rob Wadd gave a short report on the financial health of Rotary District 1220 following a recent meeting when the District accounts were approved. Two District seminars on recruitment and Foundation are being arranged.
Nenna Kind Cancer Support Centre
Barbara Wallace gave an inspiring update on the work of the Nenna Kind Cancer Support Centre, which is based in Dent’s Chambers, New Square, Chesterfield. She spoke of the history, and range of services and support, that are now provided by the charity to cancer sufferers and their families in the Chesterfield area. Twice daily free transport is also provided for patients receiving treatment at Weston Park Cancer Hospital in Sheffield. More details; https://bit.ly/2D88iC5

After a donation of £250 from club disbursements was made by the president, a formal vote of thanks was proposed by speaker host, past-president John Roberts.
The after-lunch speaker at the next club meeting on Friday 2 November is Vivien Millar on ‘The Poppy Appeal in Chesterfield’. Speaker host is Peter Barr and duty rotarian is John Roberts.
