President Peter Barr presided at the monthly business meeting of the Rotary Club of Chesterfield held at the Olde House, Newbold, on Friday 8 June 2018. He brought greetings from the Inner Wheel Club of Chesterfield following attendance by a number of rotarians at their 69th Charter Anniversary Luncheon at the Ringwood Hall Hotel on Sunday 4 June 2018.
Information boards circulated:- the attendance sheet; and club calendar of events and duties. The president reminded members of the club’s Eckington Classic Car & Bike Show being held at Renishaw Hall on Wednesday 13 June. Secretary John Hare reported that a letter of resignation had been received from rotarian Andrew Elliott due to his plans to relocate away from the Chesterfield area.
Secretary John Hare
The president took the opportunity to thank past-president John Hare both personally, and on behalf of the club, for helpfully carrying out the duties of club secretary over a number of years. John, and his wife Pam, are leaving the area later this year to relocate to the warmer climes of West Sussex. Members applauded John in recognition of his service to the club. Past-president Mike Cudzich-Madry will take-over as club secretary for the Rotary Year 2018-19.
Future plans for the club
Following approval of the annual report at the last business meeting, and the issues highlighted concerning the future, a suggestion had been made by past-president Cyril Bates to use this month’s business meeting to discuss future plans for the club. Following a reprise of the key issues, members contributed to a constructive and lively debate which should help inform Club Council as it develops a forward plan for member’s approval. This forward plan is likely to highlight any changes which may need to be made, safeguards the historical legacy of the Rotary Club of Chesterfield, but importantly, helps nurture and expand the club’s recently formed satellite meeting of younger rotarian members.
The closing toast was proposed by past-president Jim Haggarty. The next club meeting on Friday 15 June 2018 is the annual club assembly when president-elect Barry Thompson will address the meeting about the club programme for 2018-19. Duty rotarian is Cyril Bates.
