MEETING REPORT

   

President Peter Barr presided at the weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Chesterfield held at the Olde House, Newbold, on Friday 15 December 2017.  He welcomed regular guest, past-president Frank Clifford (Bolsover).

  

Members Birthdays

  

Wine was provided by past-president David Jenkins who celebrates his 94th birthday on Boxing Day. Birthday wishes were also expressed for past-president’s Mike Hadfield and David Longden who also celebrate birthdays over the Christmas period.

     

Information Boards

   

Information boards circulated included:- additional volunteers required to fill in gaps in the rota for Santa’s Sleigh at Tesco Extra on Fri 22 Dec, Sat 23 Dec, & Sun 24 Dec; attendance register; club calendar of duties and events. There was also advance news of the annual Whisky Tasting Evening taking place at the Olde House on Friday 9 March 2018.

    

Rotary (RIBI) Magazine

   

Secretary John Hare reminded members to take a copy of the December 2017/January 2018 issue of the Rotary magazine.  From the next issue this Rotary magazine will no longer be distributed to clubs.  Members will still be able to access this magazine online, but will need to subscribe to receive the printed edition delivered to the door. Details on how to subscribe are in the magazine.

Rotary Satellite Club of Chesterfield

     

The next meeting of the Satellite Club is an informal get-together at Brampton Manor on Wednesday 20 December from 5.30pm.

    

Forthcoming events

    

The president highlighted forthcoming Rotary commitments.  These included, Santa’s Sleigh at Morrisons, Brampton on Saturday 16 December (all day), the Rotary & Inner Wheel District Carol Service at Trent College Chapel on Sunday 17 December (2.00pm). Santa’s Sleigh at Tesco Extra for three days Fri 22 Dec, Sat 23 Dec, & Sun 24 Dec.

      

Christmas Carols  

    

Following the annual Christmas lunch, past-president David Windle led members for the traditional singing of carols. Members were accompanied by past-president Tim Stubbins on keyboard, and were joined in the singing by Zoe and Sarah, members of the Olde House staff.  The closing toast was proposed by past-president John Hare.

Next meeting

   

Due to Christmas and the New Year there are no club meetings on Friday 22 December and Friday 29 December.  The next club meeting is on Friday 5 January 2018.  Speaker host is David Windle and duty rotarian is Rob Wadd.
