Joint-president David Dolman presided at the weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Chesterfield held at the Olde House, Newbold, on Friday 1 April 2016.  He welcomed regular visitor Frank Clifford, past president of the Rotary Club of Bolsover.

Past-president Rob Wadd was pleased to report that following the club’s decision on 18 March 2016 to set up a Satellite Club, the newly named Rotary Satellite Club of Chesterfield Central was formerly launched on Wednesday 23 March 2016 in accordance with guidelines from RIBI.  Rotary membership forms had been issued to the potential members who initially number up to 15.  The new officers appointed at the launch meeting were chairman Peter Blant (Cheetham Jackson – independent financial planners), secretary John Nettleship (BRM Solicitors), and treasurer Martin Swain (Stopfords – chartered accountants).  The new club has already arranged a further planning meeting for Wednesday 20 April to discuss future project plans, including further recruitment.  The next full meeting will be held at Calabria on Wednesday 27 April (5.30pm).  Click here for details of the recent launch meeting

Club treasurer Alan Clarke reported that the club had received a surprise cheque for £215 from Rotary District 1220 as a share of excess reserves which presumably were being reduced.

The after-lunch speaker was Hardyal Dhindsa, the current Deputy Police & Crime Commissioner for Derbyshire, who helpfully explained the role and highlighted the overall objectives and achievements in Derbyshire. He is standing for the top job in the forthcoming elections taking place in May 2016.  After an interesting Q & A session a vote of thanks was proposed by rotarian George Freeman.
