Joint-president David Dolman presided at the weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Chesterfield held at the Olde House, Newbold, on Friday 30 October 2015. He welcomed regular guest Frank Clifford, past-president of the Rotary Club of Bolsover.


Joint-president Ian Gaunt reported on his visit to the Charter Celebration of the Rotary Club of Clay Cross and brought greetings from their president and members.


Past-president Mike Cudzich-Madry reminded members that the club’s 93rd Charter Anniversary Luncheon is being held at Ringwood Hall Hotel on Sunday 1 November 2015, 12.30pm for 1.00pm.  Past-presidents were reminded to wear their past-president medals. Due to a prior engagement the official District representative will on this occasion be District Governor Elect Colin Gell (Rotary Club of Carlton).

Secretary John Hare reported that £260 had so far been generously raised from member donations for the purchase of sweets which will be given out when Santa’s Charity Fund-Raising Sleigh visits local supermarkets in December. Members were asked to bring their diaries as the board for Santa’s Sleigh volunteers will be circulated as from the next meeting.


Past-president Alan Clarke reported that the club had been drawn at home against the Rotary Club of Beeston in the first round of the District Ten-Pin Bowling Competition.  Interested members were invited to a practice session at Chesterfield Bowl, Storforth Lane, from 8.00pm on Wednesday 4 November 2015.


The guest speaker was Nicole Huthwaite who provides professional, sympathetic, non-judgemental therapy for those who want help in dealing with issues of concern to them.  She spoke with passion and enthusiasm about making a difference in people’s lives, particularly by use of psychotherapy and hypnotherapy techniques.  For more information:-

Following an interesting question and answer session a vote of thanks was proposed by past-president Geoff Mitchell.  The closing toast was proposed by past-president Jim Haggarty.


The meeting on Friday 6 November is the monthly business meeting and Special General Meeting for the appointment of officers and conference delegates, and to endorse the 2014-15 year end accounts.  Duty rotarian is Keith Hutchinson.
