Joint-president David Dolman presided at the weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Chesterfield held at the Olde House, Newbold, on Friday 2 October 2015. Apologies for absence were received from joint-president Ian Gaunt and club secretary John Hare who were attending District Conference

Details of the club’s 93rd Charter Anniversary Luncheon, which is to be held at Ringwood Hall Hotel on Sunday 1 November 2015, were circulated.

The after-lunch speaker was Jahangir Khan, a local Muslim who has lived in Chesterfield for thirty eight years.  He explained that Islam was a way of life which was very often misunderstood by both Muslims and non-Muslims alike. He went on to explain some of the ways and customs in following the Muslim faith.  He also gave his view that the word ‘jihadi’ is often wrongly translated as a ‘holy war’ rather than the literal meaning of the religious duty of Muslims to live their faith as well as possible.
